watched for it’s place as an intersection between fashion doll and animation history as though i’m definitely no expert on licca-chan dolls, i think they’re incredibly cute and would love to eventually own one but for now this little ova will have to suffice ! not particularly interesting as a work on its own merits but the aesthetics are so cute, love the visual worldbuilding of yunia ! excited to check out the other licca-chan anime on here eventually but for now a cute start !

From what I've been able to uncover, Licca is a popular doll in Japan akin to Barbie, and she's been around since the mid-60s. I can't find any reference to this specific OVA series - she had a TV series in the late 1990s, but this specific two-part episode is from 1990. I don't know how it came about. It seems that while Barbie was mostly known for using credit cards and crushing on boys at the mall, Licca spent most of her time falling into portals hidden in household objects and getting transported to absurd wonderlands. At least that's the basic plot here.
Licca hits an out of tune note on her dad's old piano and it opens up…
